Is Cultured Meat Necessary? What Christ, the Bible, and Science Say About Meat, Health, and Ethics

One of the things that has been occupying me lately is whether it is really necessary to develop cultured meat to solve the world food problem. I see more and more articles in the media about the development of this product, and I also notice that quite a lot of money is involved.

That in my opinion we humans could perhaps use in a much better way. Is man actually a carnivore, or have we somehow become like one? What did God, or Jesus Christ say about eating meat. After doing some research, I can give you the following things about the world food problem and the consumption of Animal Proteins.

What does the Torah, the Jewish Old Testament, say about eating meat?

The dietary laws in the Bible are found in the Old Testament, see for this: "Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14", these are regulations that determine which animals are considered clean and unclean for the Jewish people. These laws are part of Kashrut, the Jewish system of dietary laws. In general, ruminant animals with cloven hooves can be eaten, such as cattle, sheep and goats. Animals that do not ruminate or have no split hooves, or both, are unclean and should not be eaten, such as pigs, horses and camels. Eating Blood is also forbidden, which is why there are special slaughter methods. It is also forbidden to cook the meat of young animals in the milk of the mother animal, so this says something about separating meat and milk.

What exactly does God say in the Old Testament of the Bible?

The most important part of the part from Romans 14 is in the last part. If you celebrate a holiday, celebrate it for the Lord's sake; if you eat meat, thank God for your meat; and if you don't eat meat, thank God for that food too. God is not concerned with what you eat or not eat, God is concerned with your heart. It is not what you eat that makes you clean, but what comes from your heart makes you clean. So, whether you eat or drink or do anything else, do everything for the glory of God." 1 Corinthians 10:31 (NIV)In addition, we should not judge people who do or do not eat meat, and we should take each other into account. If someone comes to eat with you who is a vegetarian, eat a nice vegetarian dinner for an evening. Be considerate of each other, love each other! (Romans 14)

Is it really necessary for human health to eat meat?

According to the Bible, a person does not necessarily have to eat vegetarian, and there is therefore not necessarily an artificial substitute for meat. However, meat does contain many valuable substances, such as a source of energy. The substances in meat are important in cell division and the building of muscles and bones. The useful substances include: "proteins, vitamins B1, B6 and B12 and the minerals Iron and zinc. Lacking these vitamins and minerals will eventually lead to anemia, in which fatigue, paleness, and weakness. People who do not eat meat are therefore advised to consume the right additives in the form of the vitamins and minerals mentioned above.

But why cultured meat, and how far along is it?

After consulting some sources, I can tell you that the specialists in the field of artificial meat claim that it is not much different from real animal meat. It would even be healthier, because cultured meat consists of animal cells and is therefore exactly the same as a piece of meat from the butcher, but with the addition that this artificial meat has not undergone any modification and/or manipulation. In fact, a leading Islamic authority: "The Islamic Fiqh Academy decided at its last conference in Doha that Muslims can also eat cultured meat." The IIFA, which operates under the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, one of the world's leading authorities on Islam, has set a number of specific conditions.

When could humans start eating artificial meat, and is it really better for humanity?

According to the experts in the field of this artificial form of meat production, the first products will be on the market within the next three years, perhaps even faster, says the American company Just, the technology is there, says Josh Tetrick, the CEO of the company. The future without dead animals, and without the harmful fertilizers, is therefore coming at us at a rapid pace.  (*De Volkskrant) Mr. Post of the Dutch University of Maastricht says that a lot has happened in recent years, he founded Mosa Meat in 2016 with his partner, this company is working on a pilot plant. They are already working with companies from the United States and Israel. The company Finless Food in California is already developing artificial fish, the company "Perfect Day," is even working on artificial milk.

But had God, or Jesus, conceived man as a Carnivore?

According to the opinion of Mr. Alain Verwey in one of his Column’s, eating meat is according to the bible for bastards. He says: The Bible has a vegetarian touch." According to this writer: "We had not yet left paradise, or enmity between man and beast had already begun." Think of the battle for the apple with the snake. Before this incident, Adam and Eve did not eat animals, according to him. Man had enough seed-bearing plants and fruits. The fact that we now eat other creatures from our planet is not normal according to the writer. I think: " the book of Leviticus of the Bible is full of detailed legislation about ritual slaughter. Around this holy slaughter it smelled more of shawarma tent than incense. The Israeli author Yuval Harari wrote something similar in his books about the past. Because of this, I am no longer completely sure what is true or not. In my view, people have to choose for themselves: "meat or not", or "real or artificial meat." Maybe the world will be a little better with artificial meat, but it will also be better by driving less cars, more cycling, less plastic, less plastic and so on. Who starts with what, and does it all make sense? The hazy books don't really give us any advice!
